Children's Day

Happy Children's Day!
In South Korea, May 5 is officially recognized as Children's Day. Parents often give presents to their children, and spend the day with them. The children are taken on excursions, like to zoos and museums. The creation of Children's Day is attributed to the writer Bang Jeong-Hwan.

We celebrated Children's Day early by meeting other CSKAF families at our local zoo on Saturday. CSKAF stands for Colorado Springs Korean Adoptive Families and is the name we came up with for our informal group that is going to try to get together for various Korean holidays, as well as summer park meet-ups. There is another all-Colorado gathering to celebrate Children's Day in a few weeks as well. We may drive up to Denver for that one too. Any opportunity to spend time with other "families like ours" is always welcome.

I brought my camera, but forgot to take any pictures at the zoo. J loved the monkeys and big apes like always. I heard him count correctly for the first time while we were visiting those. We came up to an orangutan habitat and J looked, pointed and said, "Two monkeys." Yes, there were. (For now, we are calling all monkeys and great apes just monkeys. Well, except we differentiate gorillas.) Love to see him learn!
